Remember those blue packets
We found in bags of crisps
It added to the flavour
As in the bag we dipped

Salt went in the vegetables
The porridge and the stew
And now they say it’s bad for you
Just what are we to do?

It makes us retain water
That we thought was merely fat
And sends blood pressure through the roof
What do we do with that?

Use herbs instead of salt they say
Don’t put it on the table
But would our veggies taste the same?
‘Not on your life’ says Mabel

Now Jesus has a different view
And makes it plain you see
That we ourselves are salt and light
When we belong to Him

Salt is an enhancer
Adding flavour to our food
How bland would a potato be
If salt - less it was served

Jesus wants us to be salt
To sharpen appetites for God
To be flavourful and tasty
As we minister His Word

That man may see the Jesus
Lord of Life and King of Love
The One who sacrificed His life
And shed His precious blood

So man could be redeemed from sin
And live a life that’s pure
And walk in fellowship with God
Now and forever more

Lot’s wife became a pillar
Of salt within the desert
Because she didn’t trust the Lord
And looked back for her pleasure
