Shepherds watching flocks by night
Keeping harm away
The star that burned so bright
That night was  turned to day

There was a lowly manger
In which the Child lay
For God, the Son of God
Came to us that day

He had come to dwell with us
To test the load we share
To see temptation, hunger, thirst
To feel what mortals bear

Heavenly choirs sang in the sky
Praise and glory to God Most High
Peace on earth, goodwill to all men
Would that we could hear it again

For when did the world need peace more
Although we do not hear cannon roar
Our brethren are being put to the test
Oppressed in His Name and given no rest

We need to bow to that Child who came
Who grew up humble, was given no fame
Who went to the cross to pay for us all
So through Him no more would fall

He died for us, even though He could say
I want none of this, and just walk away
But He said to the Father, having come to the brink
Be it Your will, of the cup I will drink

Could any of us, given that choice
Have walked to the cross without giving voice
And not have rejected that low creature man
Given him hope, offered your hand
For this is what Christ did, for that He was born
When He lay there and shivered in the cold of the morn
So let us give thanks to the Child that lay
In a straw filled manger that first Christmas day

Be assured that His love for you is more than just words in some book that say "I love you." He has proven His love for you by demonstrating it before the eyes of all men.
